After Hours Policy
If you have an urgent problem during normal business hours, please call the office and speak to the nurse.
If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go directly to a Hospital Emergency Room. For all other emergencies after normal business hours, you may contact our answering service by contacting our office. If you do have an urgent medical concern, the answering service will take your name and phone number and contact the on-call physician, who will return your call as soon as possible. Once you page the on call physician, please stay by the phone & keep the line clear.
We have a physician on call for your Urgent Care needs
only. If you have an emergency that requires a rapid intervention,
please go to the emergency room of your local hospital. Routine calls
such as refills, lab results, and referrals should ONLY be handled
during regular business hours.
The
on call physician will not phone in any controlled substances. This
must be handled by your PCP during regular business hours.
We
also ask that you not contact the on-call physician for non-urgent
calls such as colds, sinus infections, etc. These matters should
be handled during regular business hours by your PCP. During the
weekend, for your safety, please seek care at a local urgent care
facility for evaluation and treatment.
There is a $25 charge for after-hour doctor consultations and a $15 charge for nurse calls provided by Birmingham Internal Medicine Associates, P.C. We will bill you directly for this charge which you may then file with your insurance company. We will not file your insurance company for this charge. After-hours calls may or may not be covered under your policy.
