Birmingham Internal Medicine is excited to offer Virtual Office Visits. A Virtual Office Visit (VOV) is an electronic visit you make with us from the convenience of your home or office. This online visit allows you to discuss simple medical problems with one of our practitioners through our BIMA patient portal. Some commonly accepted issues are sinus infections, sore throats, flu symptoms, urinary tract infections, yeast infections and other minor issues. The cost of the visit is $40.00 which is not covered by private insurance or Medicare but billed directly to you after the online visit.
VOV requests can be submitted at any time through your patient portal 24 hours a day, seven days per week. A clinician will evaluate your request and respond to you shortly but no more than 24 hours later than the request. Virtual Office Visits are available during weekends and major holidays.
To initiate a Virtual Office Visit (VOV) you can:
Log on to (or create) your patient portal account at http://bimaportal.com.
Select the MESSAGES option and then COMPOSE MESSAGE.
Under the PROVIDER section select Virtual Office Visit (VOV). You must use a computer to see a full listing of providers in order to select VOV.
You may then send a detailed message explaining your symptoms to the provider on call.
This provider will evaluate your symptoms and, if deemed medically appropriate, make recommendations or provide prescriptions for your condition to your pharmacy we have on file.
If you feel you need more immediate medical attention, we encourage you to call the office directly or dial 911 for any acute medical emergency.
