BIMA Announces Covid-19 Care Protocols

Birmingham Internal Medicine Associates (BIMA) a Complete Health practice and one of Birmingham’s largest private primary cares, announces the status of its COVID-19 (Coronavirus) protocols and current processes. The practice, located at 7191 Cahaba Valley Road, Suite 300, remains open normal hours with many options for in-person, curbside or telehealth for current patients as well as COVID-19 testing for qualified patients. BIMA is also accepting new patients for in-person visits.

BIMA has eight physicians and eight advanced practice providers who are working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control as well as county health departments recommend patients contact their primary care physician as a first line of defense in the pandemic.

“The safety and health of our patients is paramount, and as partners, we will work together to protect our entire community from the risk of exposure to COVID-19,” said Dr. John Farley, M.D., founder of BIMA and President of the Alabama Markets for Complete Health. “The distinct markers of Coronavirus infection are dry cough, fever and shortness of breath/trouble breathing or chest pain. Patients should call their primary care practice if they experience any of these symptoms.”

Dr. Farley has been giving patients and the community a daily update that can be found at and on the practice’s Facebook page. He shares daily insights on the virus, community preparedness and other COVID-19 news via these updates posted every morning.

BIMA has limited COVID-19 testing capabilities for patients who meet the criteria. Since tests became available this week, BIMA has tested dozens of patients for the virus and test results are pending.

BIMA is taking extra precautions to keep patients and staff safe and healthy, including extra cleaning, sanitizing and exposure-mitigating precautions along with quarantine areas and social distancing. Care providers may ask patients additional questions about activities, vacations or travel to gauge risk in this outbreak. Sick and well patients are being treated in different areas of BIMA’s clinic.

Patients with current appointments who are well can keep their appointment, reschedule for a later date or request a telehealth/virtual visit. Not all appointments can be converted to telehealth, so patients should make a request for approval. Patients with current appointments who believe they may have Coronavirus or have been exposed to Coronavirus, should call their office before keeping their appointment.
